When you’re a California girl in New York City, there are certain style choices you can get away with that the natives can’t. “I have this full-length Pierre Cardin blond mink coat,” Elizabeth Harper told me a few weeks ago when I talked to her for a story in Foam. “I would never wear new fur, but it’s vintage, it’s gorgeous, and I need to bundle up.” As leader of upstart synth-pop group Class Actress, Harper is wild onstage and off. She has a closet overflowing with treasures that reflect her outsize personality, and she admits she spends a lot of time sifting through high-waisted pants, half-tops and Victorian boots. “I’m not gonna lie, I get dressed about seven times before I leave the house,” she says. “But then, I’ll hit on an outfit and wear it for a week.” Her go-to look of the moment includes a see-through Gucci T-shirt with leggings, motorcycle boots, a long, second-hand DKNY blazer and obnoxiously big ghetto-gold earrings. “I’m just really into this Janet Jackson ‘90s thing right now,” she says.
